Plot Summary: In this lighthearted comedy, a young boy named Eli Lark loses everything he has due to a violent storm that destroys his home on Martinique. In order to make a living, he resorts to signing on with a pirate crew since there are no other jobs left. He joins up with Captain Elise Blackship and her crew in their search for James Vladimir's long-lost treasure and a curse-breaking stone rumored to reside on the island of Xixi.

This is a 2-day event, same presentations on both days. So if you miss a presentation the first day, you can attend the next day. My presentation will be posted on my YouTube channel after the event.

Presentation Description:
"All behavior is communication or serves a function, and knowing what lies beneath behavior is crucial in any human interaction. This presentation discusses autistic behavior, how viewpoints of autistic people impact our interactions with them, and ways we can help them function better while encouraging healthy self-regulation."

  • 9:15am Connie Sawtelle: Core Values for DSPs: The Culture of Gentleness speaks to Intentionality, Willingness, Integrity, Accountability and Acceptance. We will briefly discuss how these look on the floor in the relationship with those we support, and how these words look and feel in our most important relationship with ourselves.

  • 9:30am Break and extra Q&A

  • 10:30am Mary Beth Wakulat: Back To The Past and Forward : A retrospect of services historically provided for people with developmental disabilities and the roles played by direct support workers. This presentation includes an 9overview of Michigan's institutional history and how services and supports evolved from "confinement and control" to "support and partnering" plus the challenges created by COVID-19.

  • 12:00pm Philip Hefner Gardiepy: What’s In Your Backpack? Self-Care During A Crisis: We will explore how the demands of stress affects personal health and personal relationships and offer guidance to safeguard against the negative impact stress can cause in the daily lives of the wonderful staff outside of work by leaving work at work.
